Local Business Highlight: SnickerDoodles
Starting this month, we are going to begin our blog series highlighting other local businesses that we think parents and soon-to-be parents should know about. As small business owners ourselves, we love making connections with other businesses and meeting like-minded business owners.
This month we are highlighting SnickerDoodles, a creative play-space for kids that also caters to parents with a cafe and snack bar. With colder temperatures approaching and parents searching for a fun way to get out of the house, we think SnickerDoodles is the perfect place to go.
We interviewed SnickerDoodles owner, Jaime Adams, to learn more about this wonderful new business here in the Triangle.
Question: Tell us briefly about SnickerDoodles and where you are located.
Answer: Located in Raleigh off Lynn Road, SnickerDoodles is a creative space for kids and their grown-ups! At SnickerDoodles we strive to create a unique environment that caters equally to the interest of kids and the grown-ups who love them. Our cafe & snack bar carries a variety of kid-friendly snacks as well as locally roasted coffee (we brew each cup individually to order!) and locally baked pastries. Our Messy Art Studio is open daily and we often have special activities and discounts.
We support other local businesses by offering sponsorship opportunities. These businesses will often offer FREE activities during our open hours. Birthday parties at SnickerDoodles are a big hit! Starting at just $99, we provide several options to customize and create a birthday party that your child will love. We can also provide our space for after hours rentals.
Question: Why did you decide to open SnickerDoodles?
Answer: I joined SnickerDoodles in December of 2016, three months after the space opened. I had been talking about opening a similar location for a few years, but due to two high-risk pregnancies and continuing my teaching career, it was always put on hold. When the opportunity presented itself on multiple occasions to join SnickerDoodles, I felt it was fate and now I am sole owner. I am able to serve the community, use my teaching background and be creative with the planning of activities and events. I love the flexibility of owning a business and the fact that my entire family can be a part of this adventure.
I love that SnickerDoodles is a place that is as enjoyable for the adults as it is for the kids. It is hard to find a place for babies, toddlers and preschoolers to play and adults to relax and I think that is accomplished at SnickerDoodles.
Question: What is your most popular activity at SnickerDoodles?
Answer: Open play is definitely very popular. Our Birthday parties are always a hit and so affordable! Book club is growing. Art specials, such as our Coffee & Craft are always popular. We do a monthly princess/character lunches with Raleigh Princess Productions and Root Beer and Braids with Cookie Cutters Hair Salon are both very popular! I love partnering with other small businesses.
Question: How do you think SnickerDoodles has benefited the local parenting community?
Answer: I have personally witnessed friendships develop between children and parents. I have even made friends with many of my customers! It is a great place for parents and caregivers to chat and relate to one another. I think we are a unique space that is low stress for parents, safe for kids, and like a second home to many of our regular customers. We also support many local parents by our sponsorship program, so they can promote their own business.
Question: And finally, we know that kids can say the funniest things and you're around a lot of kids. What is the most hilarious thing that a child has said or done at SnickerDoodles?
Answer: At one of our Birthday parties we had Princess Aurora and Moana visit and a little boy said as seriously as he could, "Hmm....I wonder how they met each other?"
We also had a child yell, "No dinosaurs in the kitchen!" because another kiddo was dressed in a dinosaur costume and putting the dinosaur toys in the play kitchen area because they were "moving in."
Doulas of Raleigh is so excited to work with SnickerDoodles in the coming year to host some special events and meet-ups, so stay tuned. And in the meantime, go check them out!
