Happy Mother's Day: An Ode to Mothers Everywhere

Y’all, can we just get it out there that this year Mother’s Day is different. Really different. There are no special brunches or dinners out at our favorite restaurants. No big family gatherings to celebrate together. The kids are not bringing home any specially made gifts and crafts from school. It is just going to be different.

And for a lot of us this change does not feel good.

We’re here to acknowledge that for many, Mother’s Day is not always the easiest holiday in the first place. Mothers that have experienced loss. Mothers that have no relationship with their own mother. Mothers that have lost mothers. There’s a lot wrapped up in this holiday. Now add to all of that the stress that many of us are under during this period of quarantining and Coronavirus and that is A LOT OF FEELINGS.

We see you. And we want you to know that, no matter what, you are a GOOD mother!

Read that sentence again. No matter what, you are a good mother!

Have your kids been driving you insane during this time of virtual learning and staying at home? You’re still a good mother.

Have you been allowing your kids unlimited screen time? You’re still a good mother.

Are you hiding the “good” snacks so you don’t have to share your chocolate with your kids? You’re still a good mother.

Have you lost your temper and snapped at your kids? Have you done it so many times you’ve lost count? You’re still a good mother.

Are you craving time to be all by yourself, surrounded by nothing but peace and quiet? You’re still a good mother.

Can you even remember the last time your kids changed out of their pajamas or took a bath? You’re still a good mother.

Have you developed a special friendship with your pizza delivery guy, who seems to come to your house every.other.day? You’re still a good mother.

Are you battling guilt, depression, anxiety, or other mood disorders? Is the current situation making those things worse? You’re still a good mother.

Have you locked yourself in your room and cried? You’re still a good mother.

Seriously. You are still a good mother.

We are living through uncharted times here, friends. And all of us are just trying to do the best we can with the situation we’ve had forced upon us.

And that’s the secret right there to being a good mother. We all get up everyday and try the best we can. And some days are better than others. But we still try.

So to all of you - no matter how you came to be a mother, no matter how hard you are struggling right now, no matter what - Happy Mother’s Day. You are a good mother.
